Attack on Pearl Harbor

Pearl Harbor is a harbor west of Honolulu in the island of Oahu in the state of Hawaii. This harbor has been attacked during the WWII, on the morning of Sunday, December 7, 1941.
The attack was by naval and air forces of the empire of Japan. The Japanese used the weekend holiday on Sunday and the peace treaty was signed between the two countries and they attacked without letting the Americans know , the Japanese were training for months . Over 360 Japanese aircraft used on that attack. The attack sank 4 U.S navy battle ships and damaged 4 more , destroyed 188 aircraft and caused personnel loss of 2400 killed and 1280 wounded Japanese losses were minimal, at 29 aircraft and five submarines, with 65 servicemen killed or wounded. Not only battle ships and aircrafts were attacked but also military airports and hospitals were too.
The attack had several major aims. First, it was supposed to destroy American fleet units , thereby preventing the Pacific Fleet from interfering with Japanese conquest of the Dutch East Indies , Second, it was a means to buy time for Japan to increase her naval strength, Finally, it was intended as a blow against American morale, which might discourage further fighting and enable Japan to conquer Southeast Asia without interference.
The next day of the attack the American president Franklin Roosevelt had his famous speech : " A date which will live in infamy " and through this speech ,The President announced the United States entering the war with the Allies against the Nazis and the Empire of Japan .
After 4 years the war have been ended by throwing the two atomic bombs on the Japanese cities " Hiroshima and Nagasaki ".

I have a prediction about this story line- next week on RAW, Jack Swagger and The Miz are going to both fight over Eve again with guest host Ozzy Osbourne coming out and announcing a match between them to deide two things: will it be Jack Swagger's undefeated streak that ends or Miz's reign as US champion, and who will be the winner who shall recieve Eve's love.

I am a single mom, 34 years old, and will be graduating in December with a BBA in Finance and a minor in Accounting. I am a salaried employee of a company who is sent out on business travel. They have just announced that from now on, anyone who travels to one place for more than 2 weeks will have to pay that state's income tax from our wages instead of our home state's, even if that state's tax is higher. Ashwin Kumar, who had recently joined System, as a training manager, was feeling
uneasy at the end of his first meeting with Pesu Shroff, the managing director of the company.
Systems was a ten-year old unit employing 300 people. It had a turnover of Rs. 25 crore the previous year. The company traded in several products – both domestic and imported. Nearly 80 percent of its turnover came from selling electronic component products which were assembled locally from imports of semi knocked – down kits. The landed cost of its imports was about Rs. 10 crore last year. The products had an assured demand in the country, with smuggled goods from Taiwan and Korea providing whatever little competition there was. The company had been operating in a seller’s market for years and, as a result, most of its activities were production oriented rather than market oriented.
Early during the current financial year, the Government of India had announced, as a part of its economic liberalization strategy, several policy measures which made imports costlier. All imports had to be financed by exports – there were restrictions on margin money and interest rates for working capital had shot up at one stroke. With little export income in its account, Systems had no choice but to discontinue importing SKD kits.
The company management had three option before it. First, to build up its domestic trading activity rapidly ; second, to assemble at least a few of the component products from raw materials sourced locally and third, pursue after-sales service aggressively both to generate revenue in the short run and to establish an enduring client-base for the company’s products in the long run.
Invariably, this meant that the survival of Systems depended on how quickly it could train its people – beginning from a handful of sales engineers – to become market – centred and customer – friendly in their approach to business.
“ The days of easy revenue money are over for us,” Shroff had told Kumar, who had a formal training in HRD and had been an officer in the training cell of a multinational firm before signing up with Systems. “ We have to compete now in the marketplace and sell hard to be able to secure orders. Times are changing. We have to change too. And that is where you come in. It will be your responsibility, as the training manager, to ensure that people here acquire marketing skills,” he said, adding, as a clincher, “Frankly, have always felt that a salesman is born, not trained. I have had no belief in non-technical training. In fact, have found no need so far for a training manager at Systems. But I am prepared to do anything to get more sales.”
That punching was what had made Kumar uneasy. But he decided to let it pass. Over the next few days, Kumar got busy evolving specific training packages for workers, shop – floor supervisors, administrative staff and senior functional executives and an intensive module for field salesman. Deciding to start with the salesman first, he met the sales manager to ask him to depute 10 salesmen for a training session the next day. The sales manager was skeptical and only half – heartedly consented to release people for the two – day training.
The session was a disaster. No one showed any interest in the proceedings. In fact, one of the salesmen came up to him during the coffee break and said, “You see, all this is a waste of time. Take the client for a drink and you get the sale. It is as simple as that. It has worked in the past and it will work in the future.” Kumar laughed it off but the message had been delivered.
The attendance for the second day session was thin. This lack of interest was again obvious at the session for workers next day. The works manager who had originally agreed to the idea was vague about the absence of so many workers at the training session. “They are sick, I believe,” he said, making no attempts to hide his feeling that to him to whole thing was a big joke.
Kumar had encountered such resistance in the company where he had worked earlier. He also knew that his training capsule was very effective. He was aware that training needs were universal for all companies and so were the training techniques which were also easily transferable from one set of working conditions to another and from one industry to another. He also knew that he had the aptitude and interest to become a professional trainer.
But Kumar began to realize that he had made a few tactical errors in his particular case. He should have perhaps asked Shroff to personally inaugurate the training session to give the whole exercise an air of formality and, more importantly, of authority. He should have perhaps started with the module for senior executives first.

I was thinking of buying a DSi for christmas but now a new dsi model with bigger screens has been announced. As Beatrice trudged her way along the long, narrow alleyway meandering its’ way through some of the apartment blocks in the Northern-London area, she began to realise how exhausted she was, and how relieved that it was finally Friday. God, days go by like months in my life, she thought, its’ going to be a l-o-n-g time until I finally die. Fifteen years she had lived, and already she had seen the potential of a life’s outcome: a dark, empty nothingness. She turned round the corner, and held her breath while passing the filthy dustbins, which gave off a loathsome stench that wanted to make her gag. She fiddled around her rotten blazer pockets to find her flat key, and when she did, the door had already been opened.
“You said you would pick me up,” she announced.
“I told you, Bea, we can’t afford gas for the car…” her dad responded, as he breathed out heavily, from his cigarette.
“Mhm, however you can afford these?” she said, raising her eyebrows as she snatched the cigarette from her father and stubbed it out on her blazer.
“Yeah well…” he murmured, as he caught her daughter’s schoolbag that she had thrown at him.
“Good day at school?” he asked, hopefully.
“Nah…did you get the call from them? They expelled me,” she uttered, entering the kitchen.
“What!? That’s’ the fifth school this year, Bea…”
“You didn’t know, then? Just shows what a pathetically organised school they really are,” she smiled, sarcastically.
“They’re the only school left in this area that actually accepted you!” he cracked open two cokes from the fridge, and passed one to Bea.
“School-smools, for what I’m going to turn out like, a shop check-out lady or a hooker, you don’t need an education…”
“Look Bea…You’re a clever girl…” he started.
“Yeah, I guess I do work hard for my average Cs’” she rolled her eyes.
“I mean…you have great potential to lead a good life…” he hugged his daughter.
“Uh…dad? Hair…hair,” her hands wavered protectively over her dark-brown hair.
“Ah sorry…now…go do your homework” he kissed her on the forehead.
“I’m expelled, remember?” she pulled a cheeky grin, and after her father had given her a weak smile back, she trekked upstairs to her room.

Ten o’clock on Saturday morning. Beatrice was woken by the sound of egg’s frying and spitting downstairs, and her dad swearing loudly for a reason unknown to her yet. After procrastinating to herself about getting out of bed or not, and staring at the ceiling for a while [which worryingly had damp patches on it near the edges], she heaved herself out of her bed. The floorboards creaked gently as she crossed the room to her mirror. She groaned as she wiped away the leftover mascara she hadn’t taken off properly last night, and stared at herself through her emerald eyes. She saw a girl…about 5.7ft staring back at her in a dark-grey bedroom, which had been decorated with black floral patterns. Her dark hair was messy in the early morning way, and her skin was smooth, totally spotless unlike the average teenager. After she had run a brush through her hair a couple of times she grabbed her vintage jacket and fumbled down the stairs sleepily.

I know "Alice in Wonderland" won & Depp accepted the award for "most anticipated fantasy movie"... but I didn't catch the names of the other 2 nominees & I can't find a list of names (for this *SPECIFIC* category) anywhere online! (They have nominee lists of the other categories! So frustrating!)

I think one was the new Twilight movie, New Moon, right? What was the other one?? That's the one that's stumping me. It was the 1st of the two previews they showed before announcing "Alice". It looked good & I want to check it out/watch the trailer... I just have no idea what it is!

NFL: Ditka wants action on head injuries

Mike Ditka has a message for the NFL and congressional leaders: More action, not studies.

On the eve of a congressional hearing on head injuries among NFL players, the Hall of Famer sent a loud-and-clear message toward Capitol Hill and the league during a news conference in Chicago yesterday to announce that his Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund is expanding its medical program.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith are scheduled to testify before the House Judiciary Committee, along with former players and medical experts, and Ditka said he hoped they "come to a conclusion and quit financing these studies" so more ailing retirees can get the help they need.

Smith said the union has differences with the NFL over how to address head injuries suffered during pro football games, but they're not fighting about it.

Smith credited the NFL with doing a "tremendous job" to improve player safety in the last five years.

"This is not a battle between us and the league," Smith said.

In the past, Ditka has criticized the players' association for ignoring the medical needs of former players with serious injuries who can't afford to pay for their care. His stance has softened now that Smith is leading the union.


Ok, I'm a very good employee. I don't take breaks, I show up to work 15 minutes early, come back from lunch 15 minutes earlier than I should, don't chitchat, and am very productive.

The manager has noticed this and has fired the two other employees who were in my department as well as several others in the other departments and announced that they will not be replaced. He says that only "the best" employees will be kept, meaning that the skeleton crew that is left has to take over their workload permanently (without an increase in pay, of course....)

I'm currently interviewing for a new job and I suspect some of my coworkers are as well.

Would you say this was a smart move on the management's part? A lot of companies seem to do this.
